Promise Grant for Students, Families
Anyone who works with youth, ages 14-16 who are receiving SSI, is asked to share information about the new Wisconsin Promise grant with young people and their families. All youth and families who enroll will receive two $15 gift cards to Wal-Mart, Pick ‘n’ Save, or Target. Wisconsin Promise is a new federal demonstration grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Half of the youth enrolled will continue to receive services as usual, while the other half will receive access to Wisconsin Promise Services and an electronic tablet (e.g., iPad). Services include career exploration and planning, job development and placement, on-the-job supports, financial training and coaching, social skills training, and more. Wisconsin agencies including the DPI are working together to provide the services in coordinated fashion. A one-page flier spells it out for youth and families. Enrollment materials are at http://promisewi.com/enroll. Youth and their families can contact Erin Johnson, Promise intake attendant, toll free at 1-855-480-5618 or at [email protected], for help enrolling or to learn if they are eligible. More information about Wisconsin Promise can be found online, with specific information about available services at http://promisewi.com/services and http://promisewi.com/training. |
